Three retina specialists recommended for examining incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan were not granted permission to see him regarding his eye condition.

According to sources, Aasim Yusuf, Chief Medical Officer at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, had proposed three retina experts and shared their names with PTI leader Salman Akram Raja. However, none of the suggested doctors were allowed to examine the former prime minister.
The recommended specialists were Aamir Awan, Mazhar Ishaq and Waqar Mazhar from Al-Shifa International Hospital, sources said.
Instead, Nadeem Qureshi conducted the examination, accompanied by Arif Khan from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). Sources added that after Dr. Aasim Yusuf and Khurram Mirza were not permitted to visit Adiala Jail, another doctor from Al-Shifa was dispatched instead.
Imran Khan received his first eye injection on January 25, while a second injection is scheduled for February 25. It remains undecided whether the next procedure will take place inside the jail or at a hospital.
Earlier, a medical report dated February 15, 2026, detailed findings of a board examination conducted at Adiala Jail. The board later briefed PTI leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Raja Nasir Abbas at PIMS and also consulted Khan’s personal physicians by phone. Both political and medical representatives expressed satisfaction with the treatment plan.

The report noted improvement in the right eye’s vision from 6/36 to 6/9 (partial) following treatment, with reduced swelling described as encouraging. Doctors recommended continuing prescribed eye drops and ongoing therapy, with a second anti-VEGF injection and advanced imaging tests, including OCT angiography, to be considered if needed.
