Punjab CM orders beefing up security at mosques, imambargahs

Published on: February 20, 2026 12:25 AM

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz on Thursday ordered tightening security in and around mosques, imambargahs, markets and other public places during the holy month of Ramazan.

She directed that additional police personnel be deployed at places of worship and public places.

The chief minister also directed that the installation of CCTV cameras, walk-through gates and search lights should be ensured.

Besides that, she directed that barriers and barbed wires be placed around congregations for Friday and Taraveeh prayers.

CM Maryam also ordered a three-layer security plan to guard such places against acts of terrorism. Apart from that, the chief minister urged the law-enforcement agencies to increase patrolling, snap checking and search operations around places of worship so that people’s lives and properties could be protected.

Meanwhile, a comprehensive plan has been devised to ensure security in Lahore in view of the holy month of Ramazan.

Spokesman for the Lahore Police has said that foolproof security is being provided to 4,999 mosques and imambargahs in the provincial capital as over 5,500 police officers and personnel, including traffic police and Dolphin Force personnel, are performing duties.

He has informed that more than 14,000 volunteers too have taken their positions in and around mosques and imambargahs.

On the other hand, CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana has ordered beefing up security at all mosques and imambargahs as well as at other important sites.

He has ordered the divisional officers to ensure field visits during Sehr, Iftar and Taraveeh prayers.

The CCPO has also made it clear that action will be taken against all those violating the Ramazan Ordinance without any discrimination. Similarly, he has directed that special arrangements be made to regulate traffic at the time of Iftari.
