Ramazan relief: Electricity, gas stay on during fasting hours

Published on: February 18, 2026 5:15 PM

ISLAMABAD: The government on Wednesday assured citizens there will be no electricity or gas loadshedding during Sehri and Iftar throughout Ramazan. Power Minister Awais Leghari and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said uninterrupted utility services are a top priority. Millions of fasting Pakistanis are expected to benefit from the measures.

Addressing a joint press conference, Leghari said no loadshedding would occur in any area during Sehri and Iftar unless a major fault arises. He added that even economic loadshedding in high-loss feeder areas would be limited to avoid affecting fasting households. The announcement reflects the government’s effort to maintain essential services during religious observances.

Leghari emphasized it was Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directive to ensure that those observing fasts face no utility disruptions. “We want timely and proper provision of electricity so that citizens can perform their religious duties comfortably,” he said. The government is coordinating with local authorities to implement the plan nationwide.

Petroleum Minister Malik confirmed that “complete arrangements” have been made for gas supply, particularly from 3am to 10:30pm, covering Sehri and Iftar hours. He added that gas would be delivered at maximum pressure to meet increased domestic demand during fasting periods, ensuring households can cook and manage daily routines without interruption.

Officials urged citizens to report any faults promptly so repairs can be handled quickly. Authorities warned that, aside from unexpected emergencies, utility services would remain uninterrupted throughout Ramazan, reflecting a coordinated approach between the power and petroleum sectors.
