ISLAMABAD: Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, Dr Aasim Yusuf, said he received a detailed briefing from doctors treating Imran Khan, confirming that the former prime minister’s eye condition is improving.
Speaking to media, Dr Yusuf said the 40-minute discussion took place around 9:45pm and included Dr Khurram Mirza for a comprehensive update. Treating doctors explained how long Khan had been under observation, the diagnosis, and the ongoing treatment plan, noting he had been examined the previous afternoon.

Dr Yusuf said Khan’s vision had shown noticeable improvement and swelling in the affected eye was subsiding. However, he clarified he had neither personally examined the PTI founder nor spoken directly with him and could not independently verify all clinical findings. He added that even family-nominated physicians had not yet been allowed direct access.
The Shaukat Khanum CMO requested permission for either himself or Dr Faisal Sultan to examine Khan and recommended that any further treatment be conducted at Shifa International Hospital.
Earlier, a medical board report obtained by media detailed findings from an examination conducted on February 15 at Adiala Jail. The board later briefed PTI leaders Gohar Ali Khan and Raja Nasir Abbas at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

Compiled by Prof Nadeem Qureshi of Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital and signed by Prof Arif Khan of PIMS, the report found improved visual acuity in the right eye from 6/36 to 6/9 (partial), with the left eye normal. Doctors noted redness and cotton-wool spots in the right eye but described recovery as encouraging. Continued use of prescribed eye drops and ongoing monitoring were recommended.
