
The Punjab government has announced significant price relief on cooking oil and ghee during Ramadan, aiming to provide affordable essentials to consumers while maintaining high-quality standards across the province’s markets.
Following directives from Special Assistant Salma Butt, DG Punjab Food Authority Asim Javed met ghee mill owners and agreed on discounts ranging from Rs. 10 to Rs. 16 per kilogram on all ghee and oil packets.

Salma Butt assured the public that high-quality and affordable ghee and cooking oil will remain available throughout Ramadan, adding that the authority will coordinate price adjustments if palm oil rates decrease further in the coming weeks.
DG Asim Javed emphasized the importance of introducing modern market systems to ensure quality ghee supply, noting the adoption of cost-effective, advanced methods to reduce trans fatty acids while upgrading testing processes to international standards.

Chairman of the Ghee Mills Association Asjad Arif praised the Punjab Food Authority for guiding the industry on quality improvements and implementing international SOPs, ensuring adulteration is minimized and supply remains sufficient.
Officials said the combined efforts of the Punjab Food Authority and the ghee industry aim to safeguard consumers, provide affordable essentials, and maintain consistent availability of high-quality cooking oil and ghee throughout the holy month.
