PM Shehbaz rolls out Rs38bn Ramadan cash for 12m families

Published on: February 14, 2026 3:24 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday launched a Rs38 billion Ramazan Relief Package 2026 to support low-income families nationwide. The initiative will provide Rs13,000 per household through digital wallets during Ramadan, easing inflation pressures.

Around 12.1 million households across Pakistan, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, are set to benefit. The government said the programme aims to deliver timely financial relief during the holy month. Officials described it as the largest federal Ramadan support effort in terms of scale and outreach.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, the prime minister said the government faced multiple challenges while preparing the package. These included banks’ willingness to participate, limited digital infrastructure, and coordination issues with the State Bank of Pakistan.

Despite these hurdles, authorities finalized the framework before Ramadan. He stressed that digital transfers would ensure transparency and faster payments. He added that strict monitoring would prevent misuse of funds.

Under the programme, each eligible household will receive Rs13,000 through digital wallets or bank accounts. The federal government has allocated Rs38 billion for the initiative this year. In addition, stipend allocations have been increased by Rs10 billion to expand assistance. Authorities plan to distribute funds across all four provinces. Beneficiaries in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir will also receive support.

The prime minister said this initiative represents the largest federal effort during Ramadan in terms of financial commitment and logistical challenge. He announced that he would conduct periodic reviews to ensure proper distribution.

Officials believe digital systems will reduce leakages and improve efficiency. The government aims to streamline verification and payment processes. As a result, millions of families are expected to receive timely support.

Furthermore, the prime minister thanked international partners for their contributions and continued interest. He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts would ensure smooth execution of the programme.

Authorities expect the relief package to provide immediate support to vulnerable households. The initiative comes as families face rising living costs and inflationary pressure. The government says the programme underscores its commitment to social protection and economic stability.
