Published on: February 6, 2026 3:40 AM

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott at his residence in Jati Umra, according to sources. The discussion formed part of ongoing high-level engagements aimed at strengthening ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom across multiple sectors. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was also present during the meeting. Sources said the talks covered a wide range of matters of mutual interest, with particular focus on bilateral relations and future cooperation between the two countries. Education, healthcare and climate change featured prominently in the discussion, reflecting shared priorities in areas affecting long-term development and public welfare. Both sides exchanged views on ways to enhance collaboration in these sectors and explore new opportunities for institutional partnerships. Sources indicated that the meeting reaffirmed a mutual commitment to expanding Pakistan’s cooperation with the United Kingdom. Nawaz Sharif emphasised that strengthening relations between the two countries had become an important requirement of the present time, given evolving regional and global challenges. Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted the growing need to deepen ties between Pakistan and the UK in areas such as trade and investment, noting that cooperation across diverse sectors was now unavoidable. She underlined the importance of economic engagement in supporting sustainable growth and long-term stability. Separately, Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan also met Nawaz Sharif, sources said. During the meeting, Nawaz Sharif praised the Punjab Assembly’s efforts towards legislation aimed at serving the public interest, acknowledging the role of parliamentary initiatives in addressing citizens’ needs and governance priorities.
