UN council condemns Balochistan terror attacks

The UN Security Council strongly condemned coordinated terrorist attacks in Balochistan that killed 48 people. The attacks struck multiple locations across the province on January 31. The Council described the violence as heinous and cowardly.

In a press statement shared by Pakistan’s UN mission, the Council confirmed that 31 civilians were among the dead. It expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the victims’ families. The Council also wished a speedy and full recovery to the injured.

The condemnation followed a wave of counterterrorism operations by Pakistan’s security forces. State media reported that 197 terrorists from a banned militant group were killed. During these operations, 22 Pakistani security personnel were martyred.

The Security Council reiterated that terrorism remains a grave threat to international peace and security. It stressed the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors accountable. Therefore, it called for bringing all those responsible to justice.

Finally, the Council urged all states to cooperate fully with the Government of Pakistan. It emphasized cooperation under international law and UN resolutions. The Council reaffirmed that terrorism is criminal and unjustifiable in all circumstances.
