Snow traps IDPs in Valley Tirah, rescue underway

Published on: January 23, 2026 4:00 PM

Valley Tirah is witnessing a major rescue operation as heavy snowfall stranded dozens of internally displaced persons (IDPs). Authorities, including the district administration, are moving families to safer locations while providing essential supplies. Deputy Commissioner Bilal Shahid confirmed that all affected families remain safe so far.

The rescue operation began immediately after the snowfall blocked access to the area. Relief teams delivered emergency supplies to Painda Chena overnight. Families were moved to school buildings and hostels for shelter. Blankets, sweaters, and essential items were distributed, especially to children.

The provincial government, Pakistan Army, and Frontier Corps coordinated the operation effectively. Rescue teams prioritized women and children first, followed by men. Emergency movements occurred along routes from Nangrosa to Dohtaoi and Dohtaoi to Larbagh. Road clearance operations continue in other areas to restore access.

Deputy Commissioner Shahid noted that the snowfall is ongoing. For safety reasons, relocation efforts were temporarily paused. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and plan to resume operations once weather conditions improve. Residents have been urged to remain indoors until roads are cleared.
