Balochistan approves Benazir card for farmers

Published on: January 19, 2026 9:57 AM

The Balochistan government has approved the launch of the Benazir Kissan Card to provide financial assistance to farmers across the province, marking a new step toward digitised agricultural subsidies and farmer support programmes.

Officials said the scheme has been formalised through an agreement with HBL Konnect, which will oversee registration and digital account management. Under the arrangement, bank accounts will be opened for enrolled farmers to ensure transparent and timely transfers of financial support, subsidies and other incentives.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Secretary Agriculture Noor Ahmed Pirkani and attended by Director General Agriculture (Extension) Masood Baloch and other senior officials. The meeting was told that provincial subsidies would cover essential agricultural inputs including seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and farm machinery, aimed at reducing production costs and improving yields for small and mid-level farmers.

To streamline registration, the government has developed a dedicated online portal titled “Kissan Balochistan”, where farmers can enrol themselves digitally. Registration facilities are also available at district-level Agriculture (Extension) offices, while a mobile application for the Benazir Kissan Card has been introduced to widen accessibility.

Authorities clarified that only registered farmers would be eligible to receive the card and associated subsidies. Officials briefed the meeting that around 80,000 farmers across various districts have already completed the registration process. However, in districts where registrations have lagged, the Secretary Agriculture has directed action against the relevant deputy directors for delays.

The initiative aligns with broader provincial efforts to modernise agricultural governance and increase farmer access to state-backed financial mechanisms. With agriculture forming a significant segment of Balochistan’s rural economy, the government said the card is expected to ease input costs and strengthen domestic crop production over the coming season.
