Karachi police inspector arrested for killing second wife

Published on: January 10, 2026 12:16 PM

KARACHI: A police inspector has been arrested for allegedly murdering his second wife outside her parents’ residence in Shadman Town, Karachi, police officials said on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Inspector Tabassum Ahmed, posted with the Special Investigation Unit (SIU). Authorities recovered his government-issued 9mm pistol following his arrest.

According to police, the incident occurred a day earlier when Inspector Tabassum visited his in-laws’ home to take his wife back. Upon her refusal, he allegedly opened fire, killing her instantly. The victim had been living with her parents for about a year due to ongoing marital disputes.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the victim’s daughter saw the attack. She told police that as her mother declined to leave with the inspector, he attempted to shoot her as well. The child managed to escape by running inside the house. CCTV footage of the incident was also recovered by police.

Following the arrest, the inspector reportedly claimed he doubted his wife’s character and suspected her of inappropriate contact with someone else. The Additional Inspector General (IG) Karachi ordered the immediate arrest of the accused, and a special team led by SSP Central Zeeshan Shafique Siddiqui successfully apprehended him.

Police confirmed that Inspector Tabassum did not report for duty on the day of the shooting. He had been assigned to investigate extortion and murder cases as part of his official duties, and the pistol used was officially issued by the SIU.
