In an official statement, Ishaq Dar acknowledged Khaleda Zia’s pivotal role in Bangladesh’s political history. He said her contributions would be remembered and prayed for her high place in Paradise. Khaleda Zia passed away early Tuesday morning at a Dhaka hospital at the age of 80 after prolonged illness.

Khaleda Zia was the wife of former Bangladeshi President Zia-ur-Rehman and the first woman to serve as Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She remained a leading political figure for decades, leaving a lasting legacy in her country’s governance and politics.
Earlier, her medical condition had led to plans for transfer to London for specialized treatment, following complications with her heart and chest. A medical entourage, family members, and security personnel were to accompany her to ensure continuous care during the journey.
Her hospitalization and international transfer underscored the seriousness of her health situation, highlighting the efforts of both Bangladeshi authorities and medical teams to provide advanced care. Khaleda Zia’s passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Bangladesh’s political history.
