Published on: December 24, 2025 1:59 AM

Pakistan’s promising junior tennis player Shayan Afridi won the El Paso Sports Commission Junior Open Tennis Tournament (14 & Under Category) after a commanding performance in the final, where he defeated Andrew Hiotellkis by 4-0. The final match was played at the El Paso Tennis Club, Texas, United States.

Shayan Afridi, along with fellow junior player Rashid Ali, is currently in the United States. Before arriving in Texas, both players participated in the prestigious Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship in Miami, where they competed in the main draw, a significant achievement at the international junior level, said a press release.

Following the Orange Bowl, the Pakistan Tennis Federation, in collaboration with the BARD Foundation, sent Shayan Afridi and Rashid Ali to Texas for a one-month training and competition program under the supervision of renowned and ATP-Certified Trainer Eduardo Vicencuo Lalovic.

During this period, both players have been undergoing intensive training while also participating in local tournaments to enhance their competitive experience. Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, praised the young players and said Shayan Afridi and Rashid Ali are very talented young players and represent the future of Pakistan tennis.

Competing in the main draw of the Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship is not easy, as it features the world’s best junior players, but both Shayan and Rashid proved their ability by earning entry in the main draw and competing at that level.

The Pakistan Tennis Federation is committed to providing international exposure and quality training opportunities to our juniors. With the support of the BARD Foundation, we sent these players to Texas for specialized training under renowned and ATP-Certified Trainer Eduardo Vicencuo Lalovic, and the results are already visible. Shayan’s tournament victory is a clear sign that our junior development pathway is moving in the right direction.”

The President-PTF further added that such international training and competition opportunities are crucial for building confidence, discipline, and match temperament among young players, and PTF will continue to invest in junior talent development.

The Secretary General of PTF also congratulated Shayan Afridi on his outstanding achievement and stated that the Federation’s focus on junior tennis is beginning to bear fruit.

He said Shayan’s performance is a strong encouragement for other young players in Pakistan and a matter of great pride for the country.
