China has strongly opposed US economic sanctions on Venezuela and the blocking of its oil tankers. Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with Venezuelan counterpart Ivan Gil, emphasizing that Beijing rejects unilateral coercion. Wang Yi urged the international community to support Venezuela’s stance in defending its legitimate rights and interests. He condemned the US move as an attempt to pressure Caracas and restrict its economic independence. The discussion highlighted China’s continued backing of Venezuela amid rising tensions.

The US recently ordered a full blockade of Venezuelan oil tankers and announced an increase in military presence in the southern maritime region. These measures are part of Washington’s ongoing efforts to pressure Venezuela over its oil exports.
China is Venezuela’s largest oil buyer and continues to increase purchases despite US sanctions. In December, Chinese imports are expected to reach 600,000 barrels per day, underscoring the growing economic ties between Beijing and Caracas.
