Pakistan, Iran move to unlock $10bn trade potential

Published on: December 17, 2025 3:24 PM

Pakistan and Iran have agreed to raise bilateral trade to $10 billion following a high-level meeting between business and diplomatic leaders. Both sides described the target as ambitious yet achievable through stronger cooperation and sustained engagement.

The agreement came after talks between FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh and Iranian Consul General Akbar Esazadeh. They emphasized structured dialogue, stronger institutional links, and increased trade volumes. Moreover, both leaders agreed that deeper economic ties would benefit both neighboring countries.

To support this goal, Pakistan and Iran decided to establish a Pak-Iran Joint Trade Committee. The body will help remove trade barriers and improve coordination. It will also provide a regular platform for public and private sector dialogue to accelerate trade growth.

Meanwhile, the Qazvin Chamber of Commerce will participate in a major trade and industrial exhibition in Karachi. This move aims to expand business matchmaking and industrial cooperation. Both sides also discussed joint investments in agriculture, chemicals, LNG, and the energy sector.

Officials said stronger trade relations would improve regional market access and create new jobs. They added that deeper economic integration would boost industrial growth and connectivity. Furthermore, participants credited SIFC’s strategy for enhancing Pakistan’s international economic standing and attracting investment.
