LONDON – Dan Houser, co-creator of the revolutionary Grand Theft Auto video game series, has released his debut novel, A Better Paradise, exploring a dystopian future dominated by an AI-led virtual game.
The story follows Mark Tyburn, who creates a virtual haven to help people escape a polarised social media-driven world. However, his creation spirals out of control, unleashing a sentient AI named NigelDave into society.

NigelDave, described as a “hyper-intelligence built by humans,” embodies both immense knowledge and human flaws. Readers witness the AI’s thought processes as it navigates a world it does not fully understand.
Houser explained that the novel examines the perspective of an entity with infinite memory but no wisdom, akin to an incredibly precocious child that remembers everything it ever thought.

Unlike Houser’s past work in interactive entertainment, A Better Paradise delves into the consequences of artificial intelligence and its impact on human life, offering a dark yet compelling vision of the near future.
The novel reflects Houser’s signature storytelling style, blending cultural critique, complex characters, and moral dilemmas, showing his ability to translate video game mastery into thought-provoking literature.
