The Kalri Baghar (KB) Feeder Canal, which supplies water to Karachi after snaking through Jamshoro and Thatta districts, will remain closed for 27 days from December 20 to January 15, 2026.
The Sindh Irrigation Department’s Chief Engineer at Kotri Barrage informed here on Friday that the closure’s purpose was to allow the Plain Cement Concrete (PCC) lining of the canal under phase I of the canals’ upgrade and reinforcement project.
The official underlined that the project was being executed to double water supply to Karachi under the K-IV scheme.
The Chief Engineer also informed that the barrage’s 3 other canals would undergo the routine closure from December 25 to January 10, 2026, so that the irrigation staff could perform the routine repair and maintenance works.
Those canals include Old Phuleli, New Phuleli and Akram canals, which are drinking water and irrigation sources for Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta and Badin districts.
