New terror threat grows across Afghan border, says PM Shehbaz

Published on: December 12, 2025 2:50 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warned that a new wave of terrorism is rising from Afghan soil. He urged the world to press Afghan authorities to act against militancy. He highlighted the issue while speaking at a forum marking Turkmenistan’s neutrality anniversary.

Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan remains committed to regional peace as it serves on the UN Security Council. He stressed that terrorism still threatens the region and demands a united global response. He insisted that Afghanistan must stop its territory from being used for cross-border attacks. Moreover, he praised Turkmenistan’s hospitality and welcomed 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust.

The prime minister said peaceful conflict resolution remains a key part of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He noted Pakistan’s support for the Gaza Peace Plan, which the UNSC endorsed. He added that the plan has helped ease suffering for millions of Palestinians caught in the conflict. He also said UNSC Resolution 2788 reflects Pakistan’s push for lasting peace.

Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan plays an active role in the Arab–Islamic group. He said the country works to secure a lasting ceasefire in the Middle East and ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need. Furthermore, he linked sustainable peace with sustainable development and highlighted the importance of financial inclusion and women’s economic empowerment. He also cited Pakistan’s clean and green model as a global example.
