
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have said that Pakistan is ready to work with all states in South Asia to strengthen trade and energy linkages. They issued their messages on the 40th anniversary of Saarc Charter Day. Both leaders stressed Pakistan’s commitment to Saarc principles and regional cooperation.
President Zardari said Pakistan is prepared to support trade, transit, energy links and people-to-people ties across the region. He noted that Pakistan sits at the crossroads of South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East. He added that this position creates opportunities for wider regional partnerships. His message highlighted Pakistan’s desire for an inclusive and forward-looking regional order.

He urged South Asian countries to face the future with clarity and sincerity. He said the region’s challenges are shared and must be solved together. He argued that cooperation based on respect and practicality can bring peace and prosperity. His remarks focused on building trust among neighbours.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Saarc Charter. He said cooperation guided by equality, respect and constructive engagement can unlock South Asia’s untapped potential. He stressed the importance of economic, digital and social connectivity. He said these links are essential for progress in the region.

The prime minister noted that South Asia faces common problems such as poverty, climate-driven disasters, food insecurity and public health risks. He said these issues cross borders and require joint action. He called for responses rooted in goodwill and cooperation.
