Zhaparov arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday for a two-day maiden visit to Pakistan, the first by a Kyrgyz president in 20 years, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif noted in a post on X. The visit is expected to pave the way for deeper political, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two nations.

During the meeting, Dar conveyed warm greetings from President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He briefed Zhaparov on planned engagements with Pakistan’s leadership, interactions with business communities, and discussions aimed at promoting broad-based bilateral cooperation.

The Foreign Office added that Dar also welcomed Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev, with both sides holding consultations covering areas of mutual interest. Several memorandums of understanding (MOUs) on trade, investment, IT, natural resources, and defence are expected to be signed during the visit.

Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan share longstanding cultural, historical, and spiritual ties. Earlier this year, the countries agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and digital finance. In July, they reaffirmed a pact to increase bilateral trade to $100 million at a session of their intergovernmental commission.

Both countries are also members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), a 10-nation Eurasian security and political grouping that includes China, Russia, India, and Iran. Analysts said Zhaparov’s visit underscores Islamabad’s commitment to strengthening ties with Central Asian states, while also expanding economic and strategic cooperation across the region.
