Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari has said that achieving balance in population growth is fundamental for national development, social stability, and public welfare.
She emphasized that nations across the globe-particularly Islamic countries-have implemented clear and effective population management strategies, and Pakistan must move forward with the same level of clarity and commitment.
Azma Bokhari stated that the Punjab government is taking a major step to deliver family planning services to every household. Under this initiative, the recruitment process for 60,000 community officers has begun. These officers will visit homes, raise awareness about family planning, and ensure that relevant services reach people at their doorstep.
The Information Minister said that every individual should determine the size of their family based on their economic capacity and desired quality of life. The government, religious scholars, and community institutions may provide guidance, she added, but the practical decision ultimately rests with each family.
She further stated that true wisdom lies in building a family that can be provided with quality education, modern healthcare facilities, proper housing, and a dignified lifestyle.
On the occasion, Azma Bokhari praised the role of the Dawn Media Group. She said that in Pakistan, political discourse often overshadows social issues. She appreciated the awareness campaign on smog, conducted in collaboration with the Punjab government, and lauded the organization’s serious efforts in bringing the critical issue of population growth to the national spotlight.
Azma Bokhari reiterated that the Punjab government views population stabilization as a national necessity and is strengthening its cooperation with all relevant institutions to advance this cause. She said responsible citizens can lay the foundation of a prosperous Pakistan through responsible choices.
