ISLAMABAD – Pakistan hosted its first-ever international Quran recitation competition, marking a historic moment as participants from 37 countries gathered in the capital. The event, held at Islamabad’s Convention Centre, began with a soulful recitation by renowned Qari Syed Sadaqat Ali.

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousaf welcomed the international Qaris, highlighting that delegations from across the Muslim world travelled to Pakistan to participate. He noted that the competition reflects the country’s commitment to promoting Quranic learning and strengthening religious harmony.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said the event showcased Pakistan’s dedication to unity within the Muslim Ummah. He reminded attendees that Pakistan is the only nation founded in the name of the Kalima and emphasized the importance of connecting the youth with the Holy Quran.

Dar further stated that being part of such a spiritually uplifting gathering was an honour. He added that the Quran is the collective spiritual heritage of Muslims worldwide, teaching peace, mercy, justice and harmony. Pakistan’s governance, he said, must continue to draw guidance from these divine principles.
The competition concluded with a grand prize distribution ceremony. Malaysia’s Qari Aiman Rizwan bin Muhammad Ramlan secured first place, winning Rs 5 million. Iran’s Qari Adnan took second position with a prize of Rs 3 million, while Pakistan’s Qari Abdul Rasheed earned third place and received Rs 2 million.

The Afghan contestant finished fourth, followed by participants from Indonesia and Morocco in fifth and sixth positions. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Federal Minister Sardar Yousaf personally presented awards to the winners, applauding their dedication and remarkable recitation skills.
