Sri Lanka is reeling after Cyclone Dethu caused heavy rains and floods, killing at least 123 people. Over 130 remain missing, authorities said. Thousands have been displaced and emergency teams are conducting rescue operations across the country.
The Disaster Management Centre confirmed that most deaths occurred due to landslides in the northern and eastern regions. Rainfall reached up to 300 millimeters, triggering widespread flooding and destruction. Rescue efforts are ongoing in affected areas to assist stranded residents.

More than 44,000 people have been affected nationwide. Many were relocated to schools and public shelters for safety. Authorities are warning people to remain vigilant as water levels continue to rise.
The eastern and southern regions, already flooded, face further risks of inundation. Colombo, the capital, is also under threat from rising waters. Residents on rooftops have been rescued by helicopters and emergency services remain active.
