Published on: November 28, 2025 2:11 AM

An important meeting regarding irrigation development schemes was held under the chairmanship of Minister for Irrigation, Planning & Development, Jam Khan Shoro. The meeting was attended by Irrigation Secretary Zarif Khero, Chief Engineer Kotri Barrage Riaz Shah, and other relevant officers.

The meeting reviewed in detail the progress of development schemes under consideration in the Provincial Development Working Party, including the K-IV project, CC lining, and Sindh Barrage Improvement Project Phase II.

The Provincial Minister directed officials to accelerate the pace of the CC lining project in the Badin region and ensure its completion within the current financial year.

A briefing was also given regarding the water shortage faced a few months ago at Sindh University Jamshoro, LUMS, and Mehran University.

Irrigation Secretary Zarif Khero informed the meeting that the construction of the Kofur Dam has been completed and the process of gate replacement is underway. He added that lining of various RD projects has been completed, while the lining of some RDs is scheduled to begin on 20 December 2025 and conclude on 10 January 2026.

Minister Jam Khan Shoro stated that during the 2024-25 closure, severe difficulties were faced at Sindh University Jamshoro, LUMS, and Mehran University due to water shortage, which is a matter of concern.

He instructed officials to review the schedule of all three packages and prepare a comprehensive plan to ensure uninterrupted water supply to the universities and surrounding areas.

The Provincial Minister emphasized that water scarcity is a major public issue and must be given top priority. He directed that the lining work of the KB Feeder be completed within the stipulated time.

In conclusion, Jam Khan Shoro instructed officials to ensure timely, quality, and transparent completion of all ongoing irrigation projects.
