NASEERABAD: Security forces on Tuesday thwarted a major sabotage attempt targeting the Quetta-bound Jaffar Express after an explosive device was found planted on the railway track in Balochistan’s Naseerabad district.

Police officials said unidentified attackers had placed the bomb near Dera Murad Jamali in an attempt to hit the passenger train, which was traveling from Lahore. The device was discovered just minutes before the train was due to pass through the area.
Authorities responded immediately, stopping the train at the Dera Murad Jamali railway station for safety. The Bomb Disposal Squad safely defused the device, which contained approximately 3.5 kilograms of explosive material. Officials confirmed that the swift action averted a potential disaster.
Reports from Balochistan say unknown gunmen opened fire on the Jaffar Express, which was carrying Pakistani security personnel.

This incident is the latest in a series of attacks targeting the Jaffar Express. Just a day earlier, the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express narrowly escaped an attack in the Bolan Pass area of Kachhi district. Armed men opened fire on the train from surrounding mountains, but security personnel on board, including Railways Police, returned fire, forcing the attackers to flee.
Railway officials noted that all train bogies remained safe during Monday’s attack, highlighting the ongoing security challenges along the Quetta-Sibi route. Authorities are investigating both incidents and have increased surveillance and patrols along key sections of the railway.
