US President Donald Trump has repeated his claim that he had prevented a war between India and Pakistan, during a bilateral meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the White House. Trump on Tuesday told reporters in the Oval Office, “I stopped one that was almost ready to start again… they’re doing very well. It all took place right here in the Oval Office, whether by telephone or in person, and leaders signed their peace deals here.” He added that this was one among eight conflicts he had helped resolve. Since May 10, Trump has repeatedly stated that India and Pakistan agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire” following talks mediated by Washington. Pakistan has praised the US president for his role, asserting that his intervention prevented escalation. India, however, has consistently denied any third-party involvement. The announcement underscores Pakistan’s position that Washington played a constructive role in de-escalating tensions, while India continues to downplay or reject claims of external mediation in its bilateral disputes with Pakistan.
