Three motorway police officers martyred in M-5 crash

Published on: November 18, 2025 2:33 AM

Three Motorway Police officers were killed early on Monday when a passenger bus ran over their patrol vehicle near Uch Sharif on the M5 Motorway, in what officials described as a deeply tragic and avoidable accident.

According to the Motorway Police spokesperson, the incident occurred near location 662 on the M5 Multan Motorway when a bus travelling from Karachi to Multan struck a patrolling mobile from behind. The collision was severe, leaving all three officers inside the vehicle dead on the spot.

The officers – Sub-Inspector Muhammad Mushtaq, Assistant Sub-Inspector Nasir Abbas, and Constable Osama – were returning home after completing their duty shift. Rescue teams, along with the sector commander and DSP, immediately reached the scene and began relief operations. Emergency responders worked to secure the site and clear debris from the motorway. The Motorway Police confirmed that rescue activities were continuing throughout the morning.

Officials said the passenger bus involved in the crash was on its Karachi-to-Multan route when it ploughed into the police mobile. Investigators are assessing the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed “deep sorrow and grief” over the death of the three officers. She extended condolences to the families of the martyrs and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of any injured officials.

Maryam Nawaz said the sacrifice of the officers, who lost their lives while fulfilling their duties, would always be remembered. She directed authorities to support the families during this difficult time.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan also expressed profound grief over the accident. He paid tribute to SI Muhammad Mushtaq, ASI Nasir Abbas, and Constable Osama, calling them “brave officers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.”

He assured that a “complete and transparent investigation” would be conducted to determine the cause of the accident. The minister offered prayers for the elevated ranks of the martyrs and pledged full support for their bereaved families.

The Motorway Police said it was a heartbreaking moment for the force, noting that the officers were performing routine duties meant to ensure the safety of thousands of commuters. Authorities emphasized that the sacrifice of the fallen officers would not be forgotten and vowed to strengthen safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
