Oct remittances surpass $3.4bn; PM Shehbaz thanks expatriates

Published on: November 8, 2025 12:42 AM

The inflow of overseas workers’ remittances into Pakistan stood at $3.4 billion in October 2025, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) data showed on Friday.

Remittances increased by nearly 12% year-on-year (YoY), compared to $3.1 billion recorded in the same month last year. On a monthly basis, remittances were up over 7%, compared to $3.2 billion in September.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday expressed gratitude to the overseas Pakistanis over an 11.9 percent increase in October. The prime minister, in a statement, said that a consistent rise in remittances reflected the trust expatriates had in the government’s policies “Overseas Pakistanis are our invaluable assets, serving the nation and country by sending their hard-earned money,” he remarked.

Separately, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday welcomed Google’s decision to establish offices and invest in Pakistan, terming the establishment of Google’s product assembly line in Haripur a positive development.

The International IT companies like Google are expressing confidence in the government’s policies aimed at promoting ease of doing business and investment in Pakistan, the prime minister said in a statement issued by the PM Office.

He said the local production of IT products will not only make these products more affordable for the people of Pakistan but also increase foreign exchange reserves through the development of an export-oriented industry. From day one, making Pakistan a digital nation has been a top priority, the prime minister said adding that the government was taking all possible measures to empower youth in the IT sector.

“The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Google for IT training of Pakistani youth is an important step in this direction,” PM Shehbaz Sharif added.

He pointed out that the federal government was providing laptops to 100,000 talented young people, enabling them to access resources for progress in the IT field.

He highlighted that the IT training programs were ongoing across the country for youth, including women. “These training programs are enhancing the competitiveness of young people in the international service industry, enabling them to become self-reliant through respectable employment.” The prime minister said that the government was taking further steps on a fast track basis to make Pakistan the hub of information technology in the region. He also lauded the efforts of the Federal Minister for Information Technology and his team for the development of the IT sector in the country.
