Trophy unveiled for Pakistan-South Africa ODI series

Published on: November 4, 2025 12:19 AM

The eagerly awaited three-match One-Day International (ODI) series between Pakistan and South Africa officially kicked off with the unveiling of the glittering trophy at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Tuesday. The vibrant ceremony, attended by both team captains-Shaheen Shah Afridi of Pakistan and Matthew Bretzke of South Africa-marked a historic moment, as it also celebrated the return of international cricket to Faisalabad after 17 years. Both captains participated in a photo session, proudly holding the trophy, and shared their aspirations for the series. Shaheen Afridi expressed confidence in his team’s preparation and motivation, highlighting Pakistan’s aim to build on their recent T20 success. “We are fully focused and determined to continue our winning momentum,” Afridi said. South African captain Matthew Bretzke shared similar sentiments, emphasizing that his team was well-prepared and eager to take on Pakistan in Faisalabad’s challenging conditions. “We’re ready for the challenge and excited to play competitive cricket,” Bretzke remarked. The unveiling ceremony attracted a large crowd of media representatives, photographers, and cricket fans, creating a festive atmosphere at the historic venue. Officials from both cricket boards and local organizers were also in attendance. The stage is now set for an exciting contest between Pakistan’s youthful energy and South Africa’s experienced campaigners. The opening match of the series is scheduled for Tuesday (November 04, 2025) under the lights at Iqbal Stadium, with fans expected to turn out in large numbers to witness the revival of international cricket in the city.
