Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday announced the restoration of new gas connections for domestic consumers across Pakistan, fulfilling a long-standing public demand that had been pending for several years. Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, the premier said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to resolving public energy issues and ensuring equitable access to gas supplies for households nationwide.
The prime minister recalled that his government faced severe energy shortages when the coalition took office in 2022, making it difficult to meet the growing domestic demand for gas. He said at the time, thousands of applicants had to be refused because the country lacked sufficient supply to provide new connections. “Today marks a turning point as we have finally achieved stability in gas supply and can reopen connections for domestic consumers,” he stated.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the government has already completed several key gas infrastructure projects, including upgraded pipelines and distribution networks, to ensure reliable service delivery. He highlighted that high-quality regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) will now be made available to new consumers across Pakistan, ensuring a more sustainable and efficient energy mix. “This decision not only restores public confidence but also strengthens the energy security of our nation,” he said.
The premier further noted that hundreds of thousands of applications have already been received from across the country, calling it “a day of happiness for the people of Pakistan.” He credited the ongoing energy reforms to the vision of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, recalling that in 2013, the country faced crippling power outages and industrial shutdowns that were gradually overcome through strategic energy projects.

Concluding his remarks, Prime Minister Shehbaz congratulated all coalition partners and the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) team for their role in achieving this milestone. He reaffirmed his government’s resolve to continue expanding energy infrastructure, promote efficiency, and provide uninterrupted supplies to every household in Pakistan.
