PSL expands again: Get ready for 2 new franchises

Published on: October 21, 2025 4:37 PM

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to expand the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for its 11th edition. Two new teams will be added to the tournament, raising the total number of franchises. This decision comes after growing demand from fans and stakeholders. The expansion is expected to boost the league’s popularity and market value.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced the decision during an informal chat with journalists in Karachi. The discussion took place at a private hotel. He called it a major development for Pakistan cricket. Sources say the inclusion of new teams will likely involve an open bidding process. This will help determine the commercial value of the franchises.

According to insiders, the owners of the new teams will choose their team names and home cities. The PSL management will soon announce the full process. Officials aim to make the procedure fair and transparent. This move is expected to attract new investors and increase the league’s competitiveness.

The PSL began in 2016 with five teams. These were Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, and Quetta Gladiators. In 2018, Multan Sultans became the sixth franchise. Since then, calls for further expansion have continued to grow. The league has now become one of the top T20 events globally.
