Trump calls himself “good at solving wars”

Published on: October 13, 2025 9:33 AM

WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he is aware of the rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, claiming he will handle the issue after his return from the Middle East.

Speaking aboard Air Force One en route to Israel, Trump described himself as “good at solving wars,” adding that the ongoing Gaza ceasefire deal would be the eighth conflict he has helped end. “I hear there is a war now going on between Pakistan and Afghanistan. I said I’ll have to wait till I get back. I’m doing another one,” Trump told reporters.

He also repeated his earlier claim of resolving several long-standing global disputes — including between India and Pakistan — through a mix of diplomacy and economic pressure, especially tariffs. “If you guys want to fight a war and have nuclear weapons, I said I’ll put 100%, 150%, even 200% tariffs. I had that thing settled in 24 hours,” he added.

Trump went on to say that his peace efforts had saved “millions of lives” and that while the Nobel Peace Prize was meant for 2024, he “didn’t do it for awards but to save lives.”

The US president is set to address the Israeli Knesset on Monday before heading to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, for a global summit on ending the Gaza war — to be attended by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and other world leaders.

Earlier, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner addressed a rally in Tel Aviv, where demonstrators celebrated the first-phase ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas, mediated by the US, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey.
