ISLAMABAD — In a significant step toward digital governance and citizen facilitation, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has rolled out an automated birth and death registration system across Pakistan.
Developed in collaboration with provincial governments, the new system aims to make registration faster, transparent, and efficient.
The initiative is part of reforms under the National Biometric and Registration Policy Framework, approved by the Prime Minister on January 1, 2025.

As part of a pilot phase, NADRA has installed the system in over 50 hospitals and health centers, including PIMS, CDA, FG hospitals in Islamabad, and Lady Aitchison Hospital in Lahore, among others nationwide.
The new setup connects hospitals directly with NADRA, enabling real-time reporting of births and deaths. Once an event is recorded, parents or heirs receive SMS/app notifications guiding them to complete registration at their Union Council.
So far, NADRA has received 4,000 birth and 407 death notifications through the digital platform.

Citizens can complete registrations via the NADRA mobile app or at their nearest Union Council.
Initially launched in three Punjab districts, the project will soon expand nationwide, integrating public and private hospitals into the network.
Officials said that once provincial systems are aligned, direct registration services will also begin at Union Councils, ensuring full data synchronization.
The move marks a major leap in Pakistan’s digital transformation, aiming to reduce delays, prevent data manipulation, and strengthen the country’s population record system.
