A police constable was martyred and two others sustained serious injuries when armed dacoits opened fire on a police van in the Bangla Ichha area of Rajanpur.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Rajanpur Farooq Amjad, the police vehicle was on routine patrol when it was ambushed by dacoits from the Kacha area. Constable Nasir Mirani of the Elite Force embraced martyrdom in the line of duty, while Constable Mahmood (driver) and Constable Sanaullah were critically injured in the attack. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
DPO Farooq Amjad stated that he reached the scene with heavy police reinforcements, and a fierce exchange of fire with the outlaws was ongoing. “The suspects have been surrounded, and we anticipate a major breakthrough soon,” he said.
Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Ghazi Khan. He paid tribute to the martyred constable, acknowledging his ultimate sacrifice for the protection of the people, and directed that the injured officers receive the best possible medical care.
IG Dr Usman Anwar also assured full support and welfare assistance to the family of the martyred constable, reaffirming Punjab Police’s commitment to standing by its personnel and their loved ones.
