Tarar, US envoy discuss strengthening bilateral ties, enhancing counterterrorism cooperation

ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar met with US Charge d’Affaires Nathalie Baker on Saturday to discuss a wide range of issues, including bilateral relations, digital media partnerships, counterterrorism cooperation, and the promotion of tourism in Pakistan.

During the meeting, Nathalie Baker praised Pakistan’s progress toward economic recovery, noting that the country’s economy is showing signs of stability and growth. She also commended Pakistan’s key role in the global fight against terrorism, acknowledging the sacrifices made by the Pakistani people in pursuit of regional and global peace.

Minister Attaullah Tarar reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to counterterrorism efforts, stressing that the nation has paid a heavy price for global peace, often without due recognition from the international community.

He also highlighted Pakistan’s natural beauty, cultural diversity, and historical heritage, emphasizing the government’s initiatives to promote tourism as a means of driving economic development and enhancing the country’s international image.

Tarar briefed the US diplomat on legislative measures being taken to improve the welfare and safety of journalists, describing media freedom as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s democracy.

In response, Nathalie Baker lauded Pakistan’s efforts to support journalists and strengthen institutional frameworks, reaffirming the US commitment to continued cooperation and partnership with Pakistan in multiple sectors.
