PM terms Gaza agreement historic opportunity for lasting peace in Middle East

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday welcomed the announcement of an agreement aimed at ending the ongoing war and genocide in Gaza, calling it a historic opportunity to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.

In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the prime minister lauded US President Donald Trump’s leadership, saying his role in facilitating dialogue and negotiations reflects a strong commitment to global peace.

The prime minister also praised the leaders of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkiye for their tireless mediation efforts that helped both sides reach an agreement.

“Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkiye deserve great credit for their untiring efforts to negotiate a deal,” Shehbaz said.

Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the Palestinian people, acknowledging their immense suffering during the conflict. “We must pay tribute to the Palestinian people who have suffered in an unprecedented manner — one that should never, ever be repeated,” he wrote.

The prime minister emphasized that the world community must ensure accountability for those responsible for the atrocities in Gaza.

Shehbaz Sharif also condemned recent provocations at Masjid Al Aqsa, calling them deeply concerning and a threat to the peace process. “The world must hold the occupiers and illegal settlers to account and prevent any further actions that undermine the enormous efforts made by President Trump to reduce tensions and pave the way for lasting peace,” he said.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, the prime minister said the country will continue to stand with its brothers and sisters in Palestine and support efforts for peace, dignity, and justice. “Pakistan will continue to work with partners, friends, and the leaders of brotherly nations to ensure that peace, security, and dignity for the Palestinian people are established in accordance with their wishes and UN resolutions,” he added.
