Court Grants Four-Day Remand in Anti-State Tweet Case

Published on: October 6, 2025 11:05 AM

Lahore court approves four-day physical remand of Falak Javed

LAHORE — A district and sessions court in Lahore on Monday granted a four-day physical remand of Falak Javed, who was arrested in connection with two cases, including one related to an alleged anti-state tweet, officials said.

The order, issued by Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo, followed a request from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) seeking a 21-day remand to complete its investigation.

According to the court’s written order, the investigating officer (IO) informed the court that Javed’s mobile phone had been recovered, but she refused to share the password required for digital forensics.

Taking note of the refusal, the court approved a four-day remand, directing investigators to present the accused again on October 8. “Any request for an extension in remand will be considered based on the progress report submitted by the investigating officer,” the order stated.

The court further observed that no further remand would be granted if the officer fails to present recovery evidence or progress details by the next hearing.

Additionally, the magistrate permitted the continuation of investigation within the jail premises, should the circumstances require it.

The NCCIA, a recently established federal body tasked with investigating cyber offences, has been leading a series of probes involving social media activity deemed anti-state or defamatory under Pakistan’s cybercrime laws.
