Pakistan calls Trump’s Gaza plan a ‘rare chance for peace’

Published on: September 30, 2025 4:39 PM

Pakistan has endorsed US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, calling it a “rare opportunity” to end the conflict. At a UN Security Council session, Pakistan’s UN envoy, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, praised Trump’s engagement with Arab and OIC countries. He said the plan offered hope for a lasting solution, but only if it eased Palestinian suffering and respected UN resolutions. Pakistan also welcomed the chance to take part in upcoming consultations.

The US-backed 20-point peace plan includes major steps to reduce tensions in Gaza. These include an immediate ceasefire, a swap of Hamas hostages for Palestinian prisoners, and a gradual Israeli withdrawal. The plan also calls for Hamas to disarm and for an international body to lead a transitional government in Gaza. President Trump, speaking beside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said a deal was close—if Hamas accepts it.

Ambassador Ahmad used the platform to highlight the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Gaza. He described the situation as “the most heart-wrenching tragedy of our times.” According to him, over 66,000 Palestinians have died, most of them women and children. He said people are not only being bombed but are also starving, with homes, schools, and hospitals destroyed. Ahmad called for immediate global action to stop the suffering.

Pakistan also strongly criticized Israel’s controversial E-1 settlement plan. Ambassador Ahmad said the plan would cut off East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank, effectively ending hopes for a two-state solution. He called the move illegal and a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2334. He warned that ongoing Israeli defiance damages the credibility of the Security Council itself.

In closing, Pakistan laid out five clear demands for the international community. These include an immediate and lasting ceasefire, lifting the Gaza blockade, and releasing all hostages and prisoners. Pakistan also demanded a halt to illegal settlements and forced displacements. Most importantly, the country urged the world to support the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. Ambassador Ahmad said global peace and the UN’s credibility depend on urgent action now.
