India protests Haris Rauf’s ‘0-6’ gesture to ICC

Published on: September 25, 2025 5:05 PM

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has filed an official complaint with the ICC. The complaint targets Pakistani cricketers Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan. BCCI claims the players made provocative gestures during a recent Pakistan-India match. The Indian board sent a formal email along with video evidence to match referee Andy Pycroft. It called for strict action, saying the conduct violated the spirit of the game.

Haris Rauf allegedly responded to Indian fans chanting “Kohli, Kohli” with a jet crash hand gesture. He also made a “0-6” signal toward the stands. This has been interpreted as a reference to Pakistan’s dominant win. Sahibzada Farhan, during his half-century celebration, mimicked a gunfire gesture. BCCI believes these actions incited crowd tensions and set a poor example.

In the email, BCCI said such behavior was unacceptable on an international stage. It urged the ICC to take disciplinary steps immediately. The board added that player conduct should reflect professionalism and sportsmanship, especially in high-stakes matches. The India-Pakistan rivalry already draws heavy attention and emotions. Gestures like these, the board said, only add fuel to the fire.

The ICC has not yet issued an official response to the complaint. However, video evidence has been submitted, and a review is expected soon. If found guilty, the players could face warnings, fines, or match bans. Cricket officials have stressed the need for calm, especially during politically sensitive encounters. Both teams are under scrutiny due to the match’s heated atmosphere.

This development adds tension to an already intense cricketing rivalry. Fans on both sides are now waiting to see how the ICC responds. Meanwhile, players have been urged to stay focused and avoid controversy. Sportsmanship remains crucial to the game’s reputation. The incident highlights how even celebrations can spark international disputes in high-pressure tournaments.
