Wasim highlighted that the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa, which Pakistan lost 2-1, played a crucial role in building momentum for the mega event. He explained that the matches helped assess the players’ readiness for the World Cup. He further added that the weather conditions in Sri Lanka are similar to Lahore, which will help the squad adapt quickly and perform effectively under pressure.
Captain Fatima Sana echoed her coach’s optimism, stressing that the team’s approach is centered on playing positive cricket. She stated that their focus is on intent and discipline rather than the perceived strength or weakness of their opponents. Sana added that their opening game against Bangladesh would be treated like any other match, ensuring calmness and concentration across all fixtures, including the highly anticipated clash with India.
The team will participate in two warm-up matches before the tournament officially begins. They are scheduled to face Sri Lanka on September 25 and South Africa on September 28. Pakistan’s group-stage campaign kicks off against Bangladesh on October 2, followed by challenging fixtures against India, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka throughout October.
In a show of support, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met the squad at Gaddafi Stadium before their departure. He encouraged the players to adopt a fearless attitude, fight till the last ball, and rely on teamwork to achieve success. The squad is led by Fatima Sana, with Muneeba Ali Siddiqui as vice-captain, and includes experienced players such as Sidra Amin, Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, and wicket-keeper Sidra Nawaz. The team aims to make a significant impact on the global stage with their determined approach.
