Pakistan vs Umpires: ICC complaint over Fakhar’s wicket

Published on: September 22, 2025 3:10 PM

Pakistan has officially complained to the ICC after Fakhar Zaman’s controversial dismissal in the match against India. The incident occurred during a crucial Asia Cup game where Sri Lankan TV umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge gave Fakhar caught behind. The decision raised serious doubts among players and fans, as replays suggested the ball may have touched the ground. After the match, Pakistan team manager Naveed Akram Cheema approached the match referee Andy Pycroft to express their concerns. The decision had a clear impact on Pakistan’s early innings and overall momentum.

Moreover, sources revealed that the Pakistan team included the incident in the captain’s match report submitted to officials. The management also highlighted their objection in a formal complaint to both ICC umpires and match officials. They stated that the TV umpire’s call changed the course of the match unfairly. The team felt that Fakhar Zaman was not out, but had no option except to accept the ruling. Despite the tension, the players maintained their professionalism and focused on the game.

Fakhar Zaman was dismissed for 15 runs when Pakistan’s total was just 21. His dismissal added pressure to the batting order in a key match. Upon returning to the dressing room, Fakhar and head coach showed visible frustration over the decision. Many fans on social media also questioned the accuracy of the TV umpire’s ruling. This added further fuel to ongoing debates over DRS consistency and umpiring standards in high-stakes matches.

During the post-match press conference, captain Salman Ali Agha addressed the issue in a calm and balanced manner. He admitted the team believed the ball had hit the ground before being caught. However, he also said that the final decision belongs to the umpires and must be respected. His statement reflected the team’s sportsmanship, even though they felt hard done by. Still, the situation has reignited concerns about the reliability of third umpire decisions.

As the ICC reviews the complaint, fans await clarity and possible action. Such incidents remind everyone of the importance of fairness in the game. The cricket world will now watch closely to see how the ICC responds.
