Mohsin Naqvi opens Islamabad’s first anti-smog nursery

Published on: August 26, 2025 4:53 PM

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated a modern anti-smog model nursery in Islamabad, marking a significant initiative to fight pollution and strengthen environmental protection across the federal capital and beyond. The project reflects the government’s commitment to reducing smog and urban deforestation while improving air quality for citizens through sustainable development and innovative green planning.

The nursery is being developed on 50 acres of land along Park Road and will accommodate nearly one million saplings, making it one of the largest plantation hubs in the region. Additionally, the site will feature a flower shop and a training institute designed to enhance horticultural skills and promote plant care knowledge among the local workforce.

While reviewing the Capital Development Authority’s project progress, Naqvi closely inspected the master plan, ensuring quality standards were met, and also examined a newly constructed pond meant to enhance the nursery’s ecological and scenic value. He emphasized that such measures would not only protect the environment but also provide a pleasant and refreshing atmosphere for visitors in Islamabad.

Furthermore, Naqvi directed officials to arrange comprehensive training sessions for CDA staff so they could learn professional techniques in plant maintenance and nursery management, which are crucial for ensuring the long-term success of the initiative. He stressed that the nursery should serve both as an environmental education hub and as a model for future green projects across the country.

Moreover, the interior minister described the establishment of this nursery as a milestone in tackling environmental challenges such as smog, rising urban temperatures, and deforestation, while also improving Islamabad’s overall beauty. He highlighted that the project would set an example for other cities to follow, encouraging communities to adopt eco-friendly practices and safeguard future generations.

During the event, Naqvi also praised the Azerbaijani team collaborating on the project and appreciated their dedication in supporting Pakistan’s green cause. He congratulated them for delivering excellent work and strengthening bilateral cooperation in environmental sustainability, further noting that international collaboration was vital in addressing global environmental concerns effectively.
