NDMA issues fresh alert as rain deaths cross 700

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of heavy rains and flooding across Pakistan from August 23 to 30. Over 700 people have died so far in rain-related incidents this monsoon season. Three powerful rain systems are expected to hit various regions, bringing downpours, flash floods, and landslides. Authorities are on high alert and urge people to follow safety guidelines.

From August 23 to 25, strong rains are expected in Islamabad, Punjab, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Urban flooding is likely in cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Faisalabad. Hill torrents may flood parts of Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, and Dera Ismail Khan. In the north, landslides may block roads and damage homes in hilly areas.

Rain is also expected in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir until August 27. Glacial lake floods have already hit parts of Gilgit. Landslides are likely in Skardu, Hunza, and Muzaffarabad. In Sindh, Karachi, Thatta, and Tharparkar may face heavy rainfall from August 27 to 30. Interior districts such as Sukkur, Larkana, and Hyderabad are also on alert for flooding.

In Balochistan, Lasbela, Turbat, Khuzdar, and Panjgur will likely face strong winds and heavy downpours. Flash floods may hit areas like Dera Bugti, Barkhan, and Naseerabad. Rising water levels in the Indus, Ravi, and Chenab rivers are raising more concerns. The NDMA says some river points could hit 500,000 cusecs, risking nearby towns and farmland.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with rescue teams. The public is urged to avoid travel to northern areas. Tourists have been warned about landslide threats. The NDMA advises residents in flood-prone zones to stay alert and follow all safety instructions to avoid further loss of life.
