England captain Ben Stokes has finally addressed the controversy that erupted over a handshake snub at the conclusion of the fourth Test against India.
The incident began on the final day when Stokes proposed to call the match a draw, as Indian all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were both nearing their centuries. India declined the offer, opting to continue their fight.
Following the match, a video circulated widely on social media showing Stokes shaking hands with most players but appearing to deliberately avoid Jadeja, turning his face away as Jadeja extended his hand. The clip also showed a brief but tense exchange of words between the two players.
This was utterly shameful act by @benstokes38 by not shaking hands of Jadeja.

Social media users speculated that Stokes’ reaction stemmed from frustration over Jadeja and Sundar’s refusal to accept the draw, with some accusing Stokes of poor sportsmanship.
In the post-match press conference, Stokes acknowledged the superb performances of Jadeja and Sundar, praising their resilience. He explained that England had pushed hard to win but decided against risking injury to their main bowlers when it became clear the result was unlikely.
Stokes also defended his controversial choice to hand the ball to part-time bowler Harry Brook in the final overs, emphasizing the importance of managing player fitness and preparing for the next game.
Meanwhile, Indian coach Gautam Gambhir voiced disappointment over the incident, stressing that Jadeja and Sundar were fully deserving of their centuries, no matter the match’s draw outcome.
