Dar begins US visit to chair key UN security meetings

Published on: July 21, 2025 10:32 AM

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has arrived in New York for a week-long visit from July 21 to 28. He was warmly received by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, and Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States. The visit marks Pakistan’s active participation in the United Nations Security Council’s high-level engagements under its current presidency.

As part of his visit, Dar will chair a major Open Debate on “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.” This discussion will explore better ways to strengthen international cooperation and diplomacy. The event highlights Pakistan’s leadership in advocating for peaceful conflict resolution through dialogue and negotiation.

In addition, he will also lead the Quarterly Open Debate on the “Situation in the Middle East including the Palestinian Question.” This platform will help raise Pakistan’s voice in support of lasting peace and a fair solution to regional conflicts. Dar will also preside over a key session on increasing cooperation between the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Moreover, the foreign minister will represent Pakistan at the high-level Conference on the “Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of Two-State Solution.” This reflects Pakistan’s unwavering support for Palestinian self-determination and its firm backing of the two-state solution as a path to lasting peace.

Besides these major meetings, Dar is expected to hold multiple bilateral meetings with fellow foreign ministers and senior UN officials. These discussions will further enhance Pakistan’s diplomatic ties and strengthen multilateral relations. His visit underlines Pakistan’s growing influence on global issues and its commitment to international peace.

Overall, Ishaq Dar’s engagements at the UN Security Council and other global forums showcase Pakistan’s proactive foreign policy and its efforts to lead important conversations on peace, cooperation, and justice in today’s world.
