KP launches ‘Khyber pass’—Pakistan’s first QR-based digital ID system

Published on: July 8, 2025 10:58 PM

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a new digital identity system called ‘Khyber Pass’ to improve public service delivery. The launch ceremony was held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar, where CM Ali Amin Gandapur officially introduced the platform. Senior officials, cabinet members, and IT experts also attended the event.

The Khyber Pass system is the first of its kind in Pakistan, using a single QR code to connect citizens with multiple services. It will integrate with NADRA and government databases, allowing people to access healthcare, education, taxes, licenses, and property records without filling out forms repeatedly or visiting different offices.

At the event, CM Gandapur called it a revolutionary step toward digital governance. He said the platform will reduce paperwork and long queues, making public services easier to access. Initially, three services are available, but more, including the Sehat Card, will be added soon.

The Chief Minister also shared the success of other digital reforms, like the online challan system, which saved Rs. 3 billion. He said tighter control over the Sehat Card reduced costs by Rs. 13 billion, even with higher usage. He highlighted that the province’s treasury now holds Rs. 190 billion, up from nearly zero when his government took over.

CM Gandapur urged the public to actively use the Khyber Pass system and support digital change. He promised that the government will keep working to ensure transparency, merit, and efficiency. The new digital ID system, he said, is key to delivering services at people’s doorsteps and building trust in government.
