Ashura observed nationwide with deep respect and tight security

Published on: July 6, 2025 12:43 PM

Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, is being observed across Pakistan with deep religious devotion to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala. Mourning processions, majalis, and rituals are taking place in cities and towns nationwide, as people pay tribute to the unmatched sacrifices made for truth and justice.

In Lahore, the main Ashura procession began from Nisar Haveli and is following its traditional route toward Imambargah Karbala Gamay Shah. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Nisar Haveli earlier to inspect security arrangements and ensure the safety of all participants. Thousands of mourners, including women and children, are part of the peaceful procession.

Karachi’s central procession started from Nishtar Park and will conclude at the Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar. In Quetta, the main procession is moving through Alamdar Road, while in Faisalabad, it began at Azakhana Shabbir near Dhobi Ghat. Processions in all major cities include Zuljanah, noha khwani, and matam as expressions of grief and devotion.

To maintain peace, law enforcement and security agencies have imposed strict measures across the country. Mobile and internet services remain suspended in sensitive areas along procession routes as a precautionary step. Thousands of police and Rangers personnel are deployed to manage crowds and prevent any untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, the 9th of Muharram was also observed with processions and majalis under tight security. In Karachi, the main procession ended at Hussainia Iranian, while Lahore’s procession concluded at Pando Street. Other cities like Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Quetta also witnessed organized processions with strong public participation.

Ashura continues to be a day of reflection, sacrifice, and spiritual awakening for millions across the country. Religious scholars are reminding the faithful to uphold the values of truth, justice, and unity that Imam Hussain (RA) stood for, especially in today’s challenging times.
