Govt rejects petrol shortage claims, ensures smooth supply nationwide

Published on: June 24, 2025 5:58 PM

The Government of Pakistan has clearly denied reports of a petrol shortage. State Minister for Finance and Railways, Bilal Azhar Kayani, said there are sufficient reserves and all fuel supply chains are active across the country. His statement came in response to rising public concern triggered by regional tensions and online rumours.

To maintain stability, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has ordered oil companies to keep mandatory stock levels. This step is a precaution due to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, which has raised fears of disruptions. Kayani reassured that Pakistan’s internal fuel logistics remain unaffected.

Kayani also highlighted that the situation is under direct monitoring by the Prime Minister’s Office. He said the Ministry of Petroleum and Ministry of Finance are both involved in closely reviewing real-time fuel operations, ensuring no part of the country faces delays or shortages.

Addressing the public, Kayani urged citizens to stay calm and avoid panic buying. He stressed that people should rely only on verified information from government sources. Rumour-spreading during such tense times, he said, could harm the economy and create unnecessary fear.

In summary, the minister reiterated the government’s commitment to keeping the energy sector stable. He said that Pakistan has ample stocks of petrol and diesel. Fuel is being transported smoothly nationwide, and there is no need to worry.
