Thousands gather in Pakpattan as 783rd Urs of Hazrat Baba Farid (RA) begins

Published on: June 23, 2025 1:07 PM

PAKPATTAN – The 783rd annual Urs of the great Sufi saint Hazrat Baba Fariduddin Masood Ganj Shakar (RA) has officially begun in Pakpattan, drawing thousands of devoted followers from across the country. The fifteen-day spiritual festival marks one of the most important events in Pakistan’s religious calendar.

Dewan Modood Masood Chishti, the Sajada Nasheen of the shrine, inaugurated the Urs by performing traditional rituals. He welcomed devotees by sprinkling orange color and distributing sweets, symbolizing love, unity, and peace.

As part of the sacred tradition, the Bahishti Darwaza — a spiritually significant entrance — will be opened on the night of Muharram 5 after Isha prayers. Pilgrims from all walks of life eagerly wait for this moment to walk through the door and offer their prayers.

To manage the large number of visitors, the Punjab Auqaf Department has made special arrangements. Clean drinking water, rest areas, and medical services have been made available to ensure comfort for the pilgrims throughout the celebrations.

In addition, local police have implemented foolproof security measures across Pakpattan and surrounding areas. Surveillance cameras, check-posts, and patrolling teams have been deployed to maintain order and ensure the safety of all attendees.

As the Urs continues, the city of Pakpattan transforms into a hub of spiritual devotion and cultural unity. Sufi music, prayers, and messages of peace fill the air, honoring the legacy of Baba Farid (RA).
