US deploys stealth B-2 bombers, bunker-busters in strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites

Published on: June 22, 2025 2:59 PM

WASHINGTON – The United States used advanced B-2 Spirit stealth bombers and bunker-busting bombs in Saturday’s airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, including the Fordow enrichment site, officials confirmed.

President Donald Trump called the mission “very successful” and claimed the Fordow site — long considered the core of Iran’s nuclear ambitions — had been neutralized. The operation marks a major military escalation in the region.

The B-2 bomber, one of America’s most advanced and expensive military aircraft, played a key role in the mission. Designed to bypass advanced air defenses, it can fly over 11,000 km without refueling and carry up to 40,000 pounds of weapons, including massive bunker busters.

Defense sources said six Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOPs) were dropped on the Fordow site. Each MOP weighs 30,000 pounds and is capable of penetrating over 200 feet of reinforced concrete, making it ideal for destroying underground bunkers.

Alongside the MOPs, the B-2 is also capable of carrying GPS-guided Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM), Joint Standoff Weapons (JSOW), and long-range JASSM missiles, which allow strikes from beyond enemy airspace.

With its radar-absorbing materials and bird-sized radar cross-section, the B-2 remains one of the hardest aircraft to detect. Its role in Saturday’s strikes demonstrates America’s commitment to using strategic air power to counter perceived nuclear threats.
